Inclement Weather Information

Closing schools is something we take seriously. Ultimately the safety of students and staff comes first. Due to its importance, we will also work to make the decision as early as possible using all available resources at our disposal.

As weather is often unpredictable – we may need to monitor weather conditions longer to make the best possible decision.

Inclement Weather FAQ's

When will you make the decision?

We will make decisions as early as possible; ideally the evening before the predicted weather. If it's a tough call, we will make every effort to decide by 5:45 am the morning of the event and notify the school community. 

Where can I get the most accurate information on school closings or changes?

In case of an emergency for a weather-related closing, delay, or early dismissal, the district website will include appropriate information on the Live Feed.

We will broadcast emergency closures and delays on our social media channels and via District/School Text Notifications.

If there is a 2-hour delay, what does that mean for me (or my child)? 

School will start exactly 2 hours after it would normally start. Before Care Programs will also be canceled for that day. 

  • All Oaklyn PreK - 5 students should arrive between 10:30 am and 10:40 am.

  • Collingswood Preschool will open at 10:45 am, and instruction begins at 11:00 am.

  • Collingswood Elementary Schools will open at 10:15 am, and instruction starts at 10:30 am.

  • Collingswood Middle and High School will open at 9:50 am, and Homeroom starts at 10:00 am.

Why am I not receiving District/School Text Notifications (Parents or Staff)?

If you have recently updated your phone number :

  • Please verify your current mobile phone number on the Genesis (Parent or Staff) Portal under Contacts

  • You must check off Broadcast or B when updating this screen in order to be enrolled in the text message alert system.

  • Parents: Please contact the Main Office for additional assistance resetting your contact information

  • If you are a contracted employee including. substitutes/instructional assistants contracted by ESS, please reach out to your direct District Supervisor for inclement weather updates.

If you previously received notifications but have at any point opted out (Parents):

  • If at any point you have opted out of our notification systems by Texting STOP to the automated system, you will need to re-enroll in order to start receiving messages again.

    • To re-enroll please text " START " to 98900. This is not the process for initial enrollment.

  • Please contact the Main Office with further questions if the above steps have not resolved your issue.

If you previously received notifications but have at any point opted out (Staff):

  • If at any point you have opted out of our notification systems by Texting "STOP" to the automated system, you will need to re-enroll in order to start receiving messages again.

    • To re-enroll please text " START " to 98900. This is not the process for initial enrollment.

  • District Staff: please open a Tech Ticket stating your issue and CC your direct Supervisor.

  • If you are a contracted employee including substitutes/instructional assistants contracted by ESS, please reach out to your direct District Supervisor for inclement weather updates.
